Painting aluminum at home is quite simple: just go over the surface with a primer, wait for it to dry, and you can paint. This recipe can be useful for those who want to apply a protective decorative coating to the aluminum surface without painting.
Chemical protection of aluminum at home:
Household chemicals are not the first to come to our aid when we want to do something like this. For example, if you need to give aluminum a pleasant light gray hue, which is very similar to the color of titanium and serves as a decorative protective coating.
You can safely use caustic soda for this purpose. Which is not difficult to buy in any supermarket (this is a common tool for cleaning blockages in a drain pipe, riser, sewer).
To decorate aluminum with caustic soda, you need to follow some safety precautions. First, you need to pour cold water into a deep plastic plate. Your container must be able to withstand the temperature of the hot water. And the water must be cold, because when you pour the caustic soda into it, heat will be released! Secondly, keep a container of clean water handy to put your aluminum in after it is colored. First, dissolve the caustic soda in cold water. You are free to choose the proportions yourself; I poured in a teaspoon per three hundred milliliters of cold water. The more you pour, the faster the reaction will go, but the main thing here is not to overdo it, as the caustic alkali will happily eat your aluminum. I recommend experimenting with unnecessary pieces first before throwing the main product into the solution.
Almost as soon as you drop the aluminum into the solution, the reaction starts (the water may even boil), so keep a large container of cold water handy to put the aluminum in immediately after it is completely covered with the decorative coating. Do not put your bare hands in it if you do not want to burn yourself!!! After the aluminum is coated, it must be rinsed with running water, wiped and allowed to dry.
I want to warn you in advance that this chemical recipe is only suitable for pure aluminum. Alloys such as duralumin cannot be painted in this way.
