The very first element you encounter when you open the periodic table of Mendeleev is hydrogen. A very simple substance, hydrogen (H2) is a colorless gas. Hydrogen itself is flammable and explosive. Hydrogen is non-toxic, but it is almost never found in nature in its pure form – it is usually extracted from other substances in a variety of ways. This article describes a simple and affordable recipe for obtaining hydrogen chemically.
Obtaining hydrogen at home:
To get hydrogen at home, for example, to inflate a balloon or just out of curiosity. It is fast and easy enough, with minimal time and money – you do not need rare chemical reagents for this.

Recipe one, untested:
You will need table salt, copper sulfate and aluminum foil or wire (aluminum shavings), water and glass containers for mixing.
Pour copper sulfate into a separate disposable cup (choose the amount by yourself), and the same amount of table salt into another cup (sulfate and salt proportion one to one). Next, you need to pour the aluminum shavings into the salt and copper sulfate solution and watch the release of hydrogen.
Recipe two, proven by us:
I did so: I took copper sulfate and caustic soda (mole type pipe cleaner), one teaspoon each (proportion 1:1) and dissolved it in a hundred milliliters of water. Then I poured there finely chopped aluminum wire. The mixture started bubbling, hydrogen was released very actively and was released until the mixture was blue. When the mixture became white, no more hydrogen was released, although the bubbling continued. Apparently the copper sulfate has all reacted and must be added there again and again. I lit the mixture and it burned with an orange flame while it was blue and emitted hydrogen, when it turned white – it stopped burning. If you are a novice chemist and do not know all the safety rules, then I do not advise you to ignite the mixture – it is explosive!!!
